Back in Europe for the last half of the WC events…

February 22nd, 2012

We arrived to Munich yesterday and drove 160km to Berchtesgaden. We went freeskiing on the hill today. They were still building and testing the course. Today was a beautiful sunny day but the weather forecast is calling for rain for the next couple of days. Tomorrow we will have an hour of training on the course then qualifying the following day. I will keep everyone updated on how qualifying goes for me. Talk soon…

X-Games 2012.

January 31st, 2012

Good times at X-Games this year. Its always fun racing in Aspen.
After two days of training and qualifying in 11th, I was super excited to race. In the quarter finals I had a descent start pulling out into 2nd, out of 6. (X-Games is 6 at a time.) The American Joe Swennson started merging hard from my right on the takeoff of the second feature. this caused me to miss my press and overshoot the landing and then undershoot the next double. This forced me into 5th position. Further down the course I made a move back into 4th. Following close in the draft of the 3rd racer I attempted a pass right before the line and was half a foot short of advancing at the line.
We have now arrived here at Blue Mtn Collingwood, Ont. We did some school visits today and all the local kids seem really excited about this Fridays WC Skicross. Training starts tomorrow followed by qualifying Thursday and finals on Friday. I feel really good about this one!!

Alpe D’ Huez World Cup 2012.

January 11th, 2012

After a couple small mistakes yesterday in qualifying I ended up in the 22nd position for todays race. In the first heat I got the lead early off the first jump. I had a clean run and won the heat by a good margin. In the quarter final round myself and two other racers found ourselves three wide over the second feature. unfortunately I could not create enough room to get by the gate and missed it. Ended up 16th overall. Off to Les Contamines France for the next World Cup .

San Candido, race #1.

December 17th, 2011

Congrats to my team mates who made the podium today in the first World Cup of the season. Brady and Kelsey both #1! As for me, some contact in the first turn of the first round put me into the soft snow which killed any momentum that I had. In my efforts to catch back up i fell inside on a lower turn and took myself completely out of the race! New day and new race tomorrow!

Nakiska fall training camp 2011.

Up to this point…

Well it has been an interesting season so far. I have had some consistent results. But no final rounds as of yet. At the World Championships I moved through the heats and landed myself in the semi final round, where I tried to anticipate the gate drop. That turned out to be a bad move. I ended up third in that heat and finished third in the small final, putting me 7th overall. 7th in World is not that bad, but I could taste the finals! I am now sitting in a hotel in Zurich half way through the last Europe trip of the season. We just finished up ski cross week in Switzerland. The first stop was at Grindelwald Where the course was built in a new location that took us through rolling farm land. It was unique to say the least! In training we used vans and snow mobile to access the start. during the final rounds we were shuttled to the top with helicopters. Like I said unique! In that race I moved through the heats to the semi finals round again. This time I found myself in second behind my teamate Chris Delbosco. Near the bottom of the course I had some contact with American John Teller. This caused me to lose the draft and get passed. I then finished third in the small final. Again finishing in 7th. Fourth 7th of the season. In the next race at Meirengen I was only able to advance to the quarter final round before I was eliminated. I finished in 15th. I am now en-route to Branas, Swe for the next stop on the tour. Time for a final!

WC stop #2 St Johann, Austria.

January 9th, 2011

I feel like I skied well in qualifying putting myself into 13th position. This gave me second lane choice in the first heat. In the end lane choice really did not matter so much for this start. My first start was good putting me into second of the top section. With a bit of contact into the second corner I managed to hold on to my position and advance to the quarters. In this heat I decided to try not pressuring the gate to try and generate more momentum on this super flat start. That back fired. Fourth out of the gate. Made one pass on the second turn but not enough to move on.

We just arrived in Alpe d’Huez France for the next stop on the tour. Can’t wait to see and ski the course tomorrow!
