Great to be back on snow after a nice summer break. Well not so much of a break. Worked carpentry for my Dad all summer and played everyday after work and on the weekends. I can’t believe its almost fall again.

We have had a great camp down here in Argentina. A little bit of GS training, two races and some more skicross training. It was fun to rub some elbows in the course. I ended up 2nd in the first race. Warm temperature is causing the snow to melt very fast. Hopefully we can get one more day of training on the track before we leave for home.

Davey found out yesterday afternoon that he would be racing in the debut of the Olympic Ski Cross event. This was just one day prior to the event. Unlike his competition, this meant Davey had zero training runs on the course until the day of the race. Having come off a recent 5th place finish at the X-Games, Davey was ready to show Canada and the world what he could do.

A late start out of the gate in the first heat left Davey playing catch up in 4th position. Davey waited patiently and on the second to last feature he got his chance as the competitors in front of him got tangled up together, creating a near photo finish that put Davey through to the next round.

Davey excelled out of the gate in the quarter-finals, claiming the second position and holding it all the way until the finish, moving him through to the semi-finals.

The semi-finals was a closer start leaving Davey battling for second spot. Davey’s speed was slowed down as the skier in 4th position attempted to pass. It was a fight to the finish but Davey was not able to make the final pass to move him on to the final round.

A second place result in the small finals put Davey in 6th place to end the day. Up until yesterday Davey was only scheduled to fore-run the race and not even compete, representing his hometown of Whistler, BC, Canada. Today he put it all on the line and with almost no on-course training, he put his heart into it and showed everyone what a Canadian athlete is made of.

Davey qualifies for the Olympics!

Davey has qualified to race in the 2010 Olympics on Sunday February 21st at Cypress Mountain. Davey finished 3rd at last year’s Cypress World Cup event and is poised to better his results this year as he races for gold in front of his home crowd.

Whistler/ Blackcomb opened today and Davey took full advantage getting in some early season turns. Looking forward to the big season ahead, Davey had the following to say:

“I’m starting to get very excited for the race season. I’m feeling great and I can’t wait for some race action. The snow is falling in Whistler and everyone is talking about the Olympics. It’s time to represent!”

A free-skiing legend was lost on Thursday March 26th filming his latest ski base jumping movie in Italy.

He will be missed.

Davey takes silver at Canadian Championships

Calgary Olympic park was host to this years Canadian Championships. The finals consisted of four Canadian National Team members including Davey. Out of the gate Nick Zorcic took the hole shot and led for ¾ quarters of the course. Zorcic was unable to fend off an advance from Davey who drafted Zorcic and was able to sling shot past over a step up feature. It looked as though Davey would take the win, however, across the bottom flats teammate Dave Duncan, gained enough momentum to make a last second pass and hold on through the finish.
